Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery was commenced in 2002 with a view of providing facilities of international standards to the patients at an affordable cost. This department has three operating rooms, one for Thoracic Surgeries and two steel paneled state-of-the-art theatres for Cardiac Surgeries with all the attached equipment. The intensive care unit has 13 fully equipped beds and has all the modern supportive equipment and monitoring systems. The department is a high-volume center performing more than 1000 open Cardiac Surgeries every year with excellent surgical, anesthetic, and paramedical backup.

Our team of Doctors was reconstituted in 2008 with the joining of Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram as the Head of Cardiac Surgery and Dr. Jacob Abraham as the head of Cardiac Anaesthesia. It is worth mentioning that the present team was instrumental in performing the First Total Arterial Bypass surgery program on a beating heart in Kerala. They also lead the Team of doctors who performed the first awake bypass surgery and also the history making Heart Transplantation in the state of Kerala.

THIS UNIT HAS PERFORMED 12 HEART TRANSPLANTS OVER THE PAST ONE AND HALF YEARS WITH EXCELLENT RESULTS INCLUDING THE FIRST SUCCESSFUL RE-DO-HEART TRANSPLANT IN INDIA, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF DR. JOSE CHACKO PERIAPPURAM (PADMA SHRI AWARDEE)
