Overview & Features

Critical Care Medicine, also known as Intensive Care Medicine is a relatively new but increasingly important speciality. It is the specialised care of patients whose conditions are life threatening and who need comprehensive care and continuous monitoring.

Critical care is provided by a highly specialised multi disciplinary team comprising of intensivists, critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, and clinical pharmacists. Intensivists are those who receive an additional fellowship/ training in critical care medicine after completing post graduate training in Anaesthesiology, Pulmonology, Internal medicine or Emergency medicine. Diligent Critical Care services are indispensable for the survival of patients who are acutely and severely ill. The team practices evidence based medicine and follows international protocols during the management of patient. Some of the typical cases managed in our multi disciplinary ICU include but not limited to sepsis with multiorgan dysfunction syndrome (MODS), Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), Post operative complications, Pulmonary embolism , cardiac failure and poisoning.

The Multidisciplinary ICU managed by department of Critical Care Medicine has 9 beds with 4 beds meeting level III and the rest meeting level II specifications. The ICU is equipped with advanced ventilators, NIV machines, bedside ultrasound/ ECHO machine, ABG machine, defibrillator etc.

All the beds have multipara monitors. Transport ventilator & centralised monitoring facilities are available.
